Texheritage Bangladesh Museum Declares $10 Million Value for Rare Bangladeshi 1997’s Textile Artwork

Report by Texheritage Bangladesh Press ,

Texheritage Bangladesh Museum & Innovation Preservation Foundation has officially documented and published a rare handcrafted textile artifact from its national collection, assigning it a value of USD 10 million as part of its cultural preservation archive.

The textile piece originates from Kotbari, Cumilla, and traces its creative beginning to 1997, when a family from at the foothills of the Lalmai Hills visiting a wedding ceremony, encountered a handcrafted wall mat that stood out for its emotional depth and intricate design language.

Inspired by this moment, the motif was sketched and later recreated in a rural setting, where 5–6 local women artisans collaboratively produced the textile over approximately 10 days of continuous handwork. The process was driven by creative curiosity rather than commercial production. Two additional copies were later made and preserved within the local community.

According to museum documentation, the original masterpiece has now been recovered from a private family collection and formally archived under the Texheritage Bangladesh Museum collection.

he artifact features a pink polyester base layered with nylon net and hand embroidery, representing a unique form of late-1990s rural textile experimentation. Beyond its material composition, the piece is recognized as a cultural memory object reflecting nearly three decades of heritage, emotion, and women-led craftsmanship in rural Bangladesh.

Museum curators describe the work as an example of informal heritage production, where everyday creativity becomes a silent but powerful contributor to national textile identity.
