Texheritage Bangladesh: Preserving the Unwritten History of Our Textile Industry

Founder’s Message: Texheritage Bangladesh

Often the question that comes to mind is – why do so few textile professionals want to be involved in preserving our textile heritage outside of their daily work? Why are students less interested?

Although millions of people work in the textile and garment industry of Bangladesh, very few people are involved in the preservation of the history, innovation, struggle and achievements of our industry.
If I ask you, what was the first style to be exported from Bangladesh? Do you want to see a copy? Will you find it? Or a sample of muslin?

There are some important reasons why textile professionals or students of Bangladesh are not interested in preservation:
🔹 Due to work pressure and time constraints, most people feel that preserving heritage is not their priority.
🔹 Lack of awareness — many people don’t realize that today’s sample, this machine, fabric, document or picture can be a historical asset to the future.
🔹 Lack of personal profit – Many people think that there is no direct financial or professional benefit, so there is less interest.
🔹 Lack of a culture of conservation – we are not as accustomed to documenting and preserving old achievements as we are to create something new.
🔹 Lack of institutional initiatives—organized platforms, museums, and research initiatives to preserve textile heritage are still very limited.
🔹 Lack of long-term thinking — many people don’t think how future generations will know the history of our art if we don’t preserve it today.

But the reality is that the strength of a country’s industry lies not only in its current production, but also in its preserved history and legacy.
It is the responsibility of all of us to preserve every innovation, every fabric, every technology, and every success story of the industry we are working in today, for the future.

Are you a textile professional or student?
Now it’s your turn to contribute to the preservation of the country’s textile heritage by preserving your daily work, experiences, samples, photos, documents or innovations. You just give me a call, I’ll meet you, talk to you, have tea – I’ll preserve this valuable contribution of yours in our museum. Your interest is paramount here.
Do you have clothes in your collection that are 20+ years old (after 2000) or 100+ years old? Call me anyway. These clothes are our precious jewels.

We are producing thousands of textile professionals, but who is saving the daily output of these professionals?
I have taken this responsibility – me and our Texheritage Bangladesh.
For the last 10 years, I have been collecting, preserving and documenting textiles every day, just because I love textiles. I spent millions of dollars, hours and hours on preservation and documentation, thinking only of future generations. There is no financial benefit, just for the benefit of everyone.

I’m building a textile collection empire. It’s a textile museum. Texheritage Bangladesh. This is for Bangladesh. For the next generation of Bangladesh.

Your cooperation is desirable.
