Collection Policy & Ethics

Texheritage Bangladesh is committed to responsible collection, preservation, and documentation of textile heritage. Our acquisition and archival practices are guided by transparency, authenticity, and respect for cultural ownership.

1. Acquisition Principles

  • We collect textiles, garments, tools, machinery, trims, documents, and related artifacts that hold historical, technical, cultural, or research significance.
  • Items must have clear provenance (ownership history) whenever possible.
  • We do not acquire objects obtained through illegal trade, theft, or unethical sourcing.

2. Legal & Ethical Compliance

  • All acquisitions comply with national and international cultural property regulations.
  • Donations and loans are formally documented with written agreements.
  • Intellectual property rights and donor rights are respected at all times.

3. Documentation & Archiving

  • Each item is cataloged with technical specifications, fiber composition, construction details, origin, and contextual history.
  • Digital archiving follows research-based documentation standards to ensure long-term accessibility.

4. Conservation Responsibility

  • Collected items are handled using appropriate preservation techniques to prevent deterioration.
  • Environmental controls and storage protocols are implemented wherever possible.

5. Transparency & Accountability

  • The museum maintains ethical transparency in acquisitions, partnerships, sponsorships, and exhibitions.
  • Conflict of interest is avoided in all collection-related decisions.

6. Cultural Sensitivity

  • We respect community heritage, traditional craftsmanship, and indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Sacred or culturally sensitive items are treated with appropriate discretion.
